Book Review: After Dark by Haruki Murakami
Book Review: After Dark by Haruki Murakami

“I'll write to you. A super-long letter, like in an old-fashioned novel”
I am into Haruki Murakami mode in reading and again, he never failed to amaze me with his beautiful way of writing his books. This book is just too passive to read but hey, it's Murakami. Instead of being confused and all in the plot of the story, I was curious and interested. Murakami successfully tackled life in a deeper sense and pour it a bittersweet feeling to his readers. I love the way how he made the characters in this book to have some sort of connection and interrelationship. And I must say that it is great how he manage to make metaphors and to tell an interesting life story and all in the span of 7 hours.
I love the personality of Mari here and I have sort of relate myself to her. She may not be an open book but we almost have the same disposition in life and with how we see things in some angles in life. Takahashi, on the other hand have sort of represented my ideal guy (yea, personally) and I believe that he made an impact here. Being a mysterious guy and all and a guy who is willing to wait and write a long letter for Mari. I very much appreciate Karou and Korogi's part in this book. They can be a representation as people who can be so honest at night and have their own experiences to share. These people have matched perfectly to the character of Mari as they have interacted in that short hours the night. Eri, Mari's sister, is a beauty, yes. But it is a fragile beauty. It is shown in the book that she may have the perfect beauty but she is more imperfect inside. You must say that it is true that you can't have everything in this world.
All in all, the book have shown only a glimpse of the life at night in the span of little hours; the possibilities of chance encounters of different people and then coming back in your own real world in the morning. Haruki Murakami always leave something in my memory and in my heart everytime I finished one of his books (though I have read this and Norwegian Wood). Maybe, part of his soul was shared on his books and have been given to his readers then lingers in our hearts. Maybe that was it. This feeling is his soul in me as I read the last pages of his books.
